What is Guided Imagery?
For centuries, the use of visualization, meditation or guided imagery has been honored as a major technique in healing the body, relaxation and maintaining good health. Visualization or imagery is the thought process that involves an inner, mental picture, usually using all the senses which involve vision as well as hearing, smell, touch, taste, position and movement.
The brain cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined. Consequently, imagery can be a powerful tool in physically healing, using all the chemicals naturally found in the body. Further, imagery can be an incredible journey of relaxing emotional baggage from our past, coping with the loss of a loved one, the memory of a trauma, eliminating stress or even removing an addiction.
Altering or changing an image within our mind positively alters our expectations and perception of disease, a depression or disability that may affect us. The positive images we perceive have a powerful and fundamental impact on our physical body down to the tissue and even individual molecules and cells.
